In anticipation of Saturday’s North East Council (NEC) meeting in Tripura, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to participate, security measures have been intensified across the state, particularly along the India-Bangladesh border.
As part of the security arrangements, patrolling in border areas has been increased, naka points have been reinforced, and preventive actions, including the verification of high-rise buildings, have been implemented, according to Director General of Police Amitabha Ranjan, who inspected various security locations, including the State Guest House where VVIPs will stay.
Over 10,000 security personnel, including central forces and the Border Security Force, have been deployed throughout the state. Of this total, 6,000 to 7,000 personnel will be stationed in the capital city and surrounding areas, the official said.
“The NEC meeting will be held here, with many high-level dignitaries in attendance, including the Union home minister. Therefore, we have made robust security arrangements. All border outposts and the Assam Rifles have been alerted,” said the DGP.
In addition to attending the NEC plenary session in Agartala, Home Minister Shah is scheduled to visit Bru resettlement camps in Ambassa in Dhalai district on Sunday.
