With key Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand slated in a few months, the three-day RSS meeting scheduled to begin on Friday in Ranchi is likely to not only see key changes in Sangh’s state leadership but may also see the RSS loaning its members to the BJP, sources said.
BJP President JP Nadda and party general secretary B L Santosh are also likely to attend the meeting.
Sources said the meeting will see attendance from all Prant Pracharaks (regional heads), Sah Prant Pracharaks (associate regional heads) and Kshetra Pracharaks (zonal heads) from 46 regions across the country. Members of the Sangh’s national executive and all the top leaders, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, will also be present.
“This annual meeting is generally held to take stock of the work done at regional levels and to make the roadmap for the next year. However, contemporary issues are also discussed in the meeting. Apart from this there can be changes at Prant level and some karyakartas may go to the BJP for organisational work. These things will be discussed during the meeting and then a decision taken,” an RSS leader said.
RSS regularly loans its swayamsevaks (leaders and workers) to the BJP for organisational work. These swayamsevaks either function as conduit between the party and the organisation or get completely involved with the party managing elections and day-to-day party functioning in a particular region.
The meeting comes at a time when the BJP has returned to power without a majority of its own and is running a coalition government. It is also facing polls in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand this year where the INDIA bloc is expected to give it a tough fight. In both Mahrashtra and Haryana, the INDIA bloc has won more seats than the NDA in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.
BJP has traditionally relied on the RSS for organisational work when its chips have been down, sources said.
RSS publicity in-charge Sunil Ambekar said the meeting would discuss the just-concluded Sangh training programmes and various works associated with its many wings.
