An independent MLA from Langate today said he would move court against Jammu and Kashmir Grand Mufti Syed Bashiruddin Ahmad for accusing him of making anti-religious remarks in the state Assembly.
“I will take him (Grand Mufti) to court,” Sheikh Abdul Rashid said in the House when Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone pointed out the objections raised by Ahmad on the comments made by the MLA during yesterday’s proceedings in the House.
The member from Langate yesterday referred to a famous Kashmiri devotional song which speaks about the glory of Kashmir, saying there was nothing glorious in the Valley as human rights violations were going on.
The Grand Mufti had expressed his displeasure over the comments of the legislator asking him “to mind his language”.
Taking note of Grand Mufti’s statement,Lone advised the legislators not to take make any statements which could hurt religious sentiments and beliefs of the people.
However,Rashid asked the Speaker to call for record of his speech to verify if he had made any derogatory comments.
After going through the records, the Speaker admitted that there was nothing objectionable in his statement.
He,however, asked all the members to desist from making remarks that have the potential to hurt sentiments or belief of people.
