UP suicide: Minister denies meeting deceased lawyer

Vinay Singh had committed suicide after blaming authorities for failing to get his wife transferred.

A day after a lawyer committed suicide after blaming authorities for failing to get his wife transferred,Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra on Friday denied that his help was ever sought by the deceased advocate and blamed opposition parties for trying to defame him.

“I have never met Vinay Singh or his wife Uma nor received any application that he allegedly forwarded me regarding the transfer of his wife to Kanpur. Being an elected representative from Farrukhabad,I would have definitely helped them had I met them,” Mishra said.

Expressing his sympathy with the family,the minister also promised to take action against the guilty.

“I have full sympathy with the deceased lawyer and his family as they belonged to my hometown,Kanpur. I will extend all possible help and support,monetary or otherwise to the family and will order a strict action against those officials who have committed the offence,” he said.

“Uma has herself said in her statement that she has never met me,then why am I being blamed,” he asked.

Blaming the Opposition parties for tarnishing his image,Mishra said that he was not scared since he was not guilty in any way.

Vinay Kumar Singh,a lawyer from Kanpur had allegedly committed suicide on Jan 19 after his wife Uma,a primary school teacher in Farrukhabad,was not transferred despite his repeated plea to authorities.

In his suicide note,he had also blamed Anant Kumar Mishra,the state Health Minister,and a BSP MLA from Farrukhabad,for not paying heed to his request.
