Ten SIMI activists arrested in MP

A police team raided the house of one Aqeel Khilji in Khandwa town and arrested 10 members of SIMI.

In a major crackdown,police arrested ten members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) last night from a house in Khandwa.

Acting on an intelligence input,a police team raided the house of one Aqeel Khilji in Khandwa town and arrested 10 members of SIMI who were holding a meeting to chalk out strategy for a terror strike,police said today.

The arrested activists were identified as Ashfaq,Zia-ur-rehman,Jalil,Abdullah,Babbu,Khalil Chouhan,Amzad,Raqeeb,Rashid and Irfan,police said adding five activists managed to escape and efforts were on to nab them.

Police also recovered four pistols,about a dozen live cartridges,SIMI literature,two-dozen CDs,six mobile phones and motorcycle parts from their possession.

All of them were residents of Khandwa town.

This was the second time in the last few days when the state police managed to arrest SIMI activists. Recently,the state ATS had arrested eight SIMI and IM activists from Bhopal and Jabalpur respectively.

Police have registered a case against the activists under section 153 A of the IPC and section 3,10,13 of Unlawful Activities Act and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
