Rain Gods being invoked by yagnas in Gujarat

Rain Gods are being appeased by people of Gujarat from all walks of life through the medium of yagnas, havans etc.

Worried about delayed showers, tribal communities, traders, priests and people from other walks of life are organising yagnas, havans and special prayers across Gujarat to appease rain Gods.

Reports from various parts of tribal-dominated districts like Narmada and Vadodara said people were taking out rallies in villages to appease Lord Varun (Meghraj). Special prayers are also being organised in temples.

The trading community in Bavla town of Amreli district collected money from people and prepared 70 kgs of ‘Laddu and fed them to stray dogs to appease Lord Varun yesterday.

Havans are being conducted to invoke divine intervention to end the dry phase in various parts of Gujarat, including cities like Vadodara,Bharuch and Surat.

“We are seeking Lord Varun’s blessings so that enough water pours out of the skies for the benefit of human beings and other living creatures,” a priest said.

“As per our (Hindu) mythology,if it does not rain on time,it means that the rain God is angry with us. This year, the monsoon has not set in yet, which suggests that Lord Varun may be unhappy,” organiser of a yagna said.

The monsoon was scheduled to arrive in Gujarat in the second week of June, but barring coastal areas, other regions have yet to receive copious rains.
