Policeman killed,two injured in poll-bound Jharkhand

A policeman was killed and two others were injured in a landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoists during the final phase of the assembly elections in Jharkhand.

A policeman was killed and two others were injured in a landmine blast triggered by suspected Maoists at Mahur in Palamau district during the fifth and final phase of the assembly elections for 81 seats in Jharkhand on Friday.

Havildar Satyandra Singh of the Jharkhand Armed Police,who suffered splinter injuries in the explosion triggered during patrolling in the area and was rushed to hospital at Mohammadganj,succumbed to his injuries four hours later,Superintendent of Police,Jatin Narwal said.

Two others,a guard and a sweeper,who were also injured were airlifted to Ranchi,he added.

A brief encounter took place between policemen and Maoists shortly after the explosion,he said.

Moreover,Maoists also blew up a small road bridge in the Hussainabad assembly constituency,while another encounter took place at Dakra village.

Maoists used explosives to destroy a 15-foot long road bridge at Saharia under Hunterganj police station,the SP told reporters at Palamau’s headquarter of Medininagar.

At Dakra in the same assembly constituency,the securitymen had an encounter with Maoists. There was no casualty.

There is a strong Maoist presence in Hussainabad assembly constituency,he said.
