Police fires in the air as protests rock Doda

Police opened fire in the air as a mob protesting the death of a driver,torched two vehicles and attacked a police station in Doda.

Police opened fire in the air as a mob protesting the death of a driver,torched two vehicles and attacked a police station in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Acting on a complaint of a parent whose teenager daughter went missing in Thathri belt of Doda district,police picked up a driver Rafiq Ahmed for questioning at police station Thathri this afternoon,police officials said.

police station and was chased by police constables,they said adding he jumped into river Chenab from a bridge.

As the news spread,over 300-400 people raising anti-police slogans attacked the police station and set afire two vehicles,including the vehicle of Station House Officer (SHO) Ravinder Kumar,.

Later reinforcement was sent and police resorted to cane charge to disperse the attackers,they said adding police later fired in the air as attackers ransacked the police station and beat up cops.

In the clashes,five persons,including a cop,were injured,they said.
