Police constable commits suicide

He was reportedly denied leave to go home by his superiors.

A police constable of India Reserve Police (IRP) Battalion allegedly committed suicide at the house of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) in Sainik Colony here today after he was reportedly denied leave to go home by his superiors.

Identified as Shahid Mehboob Bhat of Rajouri,police said that he was working as driver with DySP Daljit Singh. He was scheduled to get married in the next few days.

Shahid shot himself with the service weapon of another police constable who was working as personal security officer (PSO) of the Dy SP,police said. However,the PSO was not present there at that time as he had gone on leave leaving behind his service weapon.

The police have registered a case and started investigations. It is also being ascertained as to how PSO went on leave leaving behind his service weapon at Dy SP’s house.
