PCPA bandh affects normal life in WB

The bandh called by the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities in Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia affected normal life in the three districts.

The bandh called by the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities in West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia affected normal life in the three districts today.

The PCPA had called for a 72-hour bandh in the districts from today to protest against Friday’s firing by alleged CPI(M) cadres in Netai village in Lalgarh area in which eight people were killed and many injured.

Private buses and vehicles were mostly off the road in West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia district and the streets wore a deserted look.

Shops and business establishments downed their shutters and government offices recorded low attendance in the three districts.

Though road traffic was affected in the three districts,train services remained unaffected,police sources said.

In West Midnapore district,the SUCI had also called for a 12-hour bandh in the district.

The SUCI activists were lathicharged by the police in Midnapore town when they tried to stop government employees from entering the District Collectorate office,police sources said.

Purulia Superintendent of Police S K Choudhury said there was no report of any untoward incident in the district till this evening.

Police sources in Bankura district also said there was no report of any untoward in the district till evening.
