Over 100 died in terrorist activities in J-K till October this year

About 105 security personnel and civilians were killed in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

About 105 security personnel and civilians were killed in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir till October this year as against 123 during the same period last year,the government said on Tuesday.

“In the state of Jammu and Kashmir there were 432 incidents upto October 31,2010 in which 66 security force personnel and 39 civilians have been killed,as compared to 437 incidents during the corresponding period of 2009,in which 52 security force personnel and 71 civilians were killed,” Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Maken told Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

He said available reports indicate that Pakistan or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir based ISI sponsored terrorist outfits have been involved in a number of terrorist incidents.

“There are also reports of Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) leaders maintaining links with operatives of Pakistan’s ISI,especially those based in Bangladesh and Thailand,” he said in a written reply.

According to the minister,a total of 660 incidents have taken place during the period in north eastern states. “The number of civilians killed,in the North Eastern Region,up to October 31,2010 is 65 as compared to 225 civilians killed during the corresponding period of 2009.

“Similarly the number of security forces personnel killed upto October 31,2010 in the North East Region is 18,whereas 36 security forces personnel were killed during the corresponding period in 2009,” Maken said.

The Minister said that the government has been,on a continuing basis,reviewing the security arrangements in the light of the emerging challenges,and a number of important decisions and measures like augmentation of strength of Central Para-Military Forces,establishments of NSG hubs and tighter immigration control have been taken.
