Nine people were killed and as many injured when a wall collapsed in a vegetable market at Gadwal town in Mahabubnagar district of Andhra Pradesh today.
The wall of building in the busy vegetable market collapsed in the evening killing nine people and injuring an equal number of persons,police said.
Those who were hurt in the incident have been rushed to different hospitals near Gadwal.
The wall,reportedly built several decades ago,collapsed as it soaked in rains for the last couple of days,official sources said.
The number of dead and wounded is high as a large number of people gathered there for the weekly market,they said.
State Small Scale Industries Minister D K Aruna,who hails from Mahabubnagar district,held a meeting with Chief Minister K Rosaiah in Hyderabad about the tragedy.
The government would help those injured and the families of the dead,she said after the meeting.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the incident. The government will take care of the treatment of those injured. We will also provide financial assistance, Aruna said.
