Lightning kills 35 in Bihar,Jharkhand

35 people have been killed in lightning in Bihar and Jharkhand.

At least 35 people have been killed in lightning in Bihar and Jharkhand as monsoon remained active in most parts of India,barring the northern region where there was bright sunshine.

Twenty-six people have been killed in lightning strikes across Bihar with Aurangabad district alone accounting for 19 casualties,state Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) Vyasji said in Patna. Three more died in Bhojpur,two in Katihar and one each in Rohtas and Arwal districts.

Lightning also killed nine persons in Palamau,Latehar and Garwah districts of Jharkhand.

Konkan region of Maharashtra,Goa,coastal Karnataka and Kerala experienced widespread rainfall. Fairly good showers were also experienced in hilly regions of West Bengal,north-eastern states,Gujarat,Madhya Pradesh and Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh,MeT department said.

Mumbai received 21-16 cm of rains as the mercury stayed at comfortable 26.4 deg C during the day.

In north India,however,the weather remained dry,with bright sunshine and humid conditions souring holiday mood in Delhi as mercury climbed above normal levels.

The maximum temperature rose three degree Celsius above normal to touch 37.2 deg C,while the minimum was recorded at 28.3 deg C,one degree above normal. High humidity with mercury at above normal levels troubled Delhiites,who were expecting a better weather during weekend.

However,eastern part of Uttar Pradesh,which received rains today,is facing flood threats as rivers Ganga,Ghagra and Sharda continued to flow above danger levels in Gonda,Bahraich and Barabanki.

But,major cities in the state like Lucknow,Allahabad and Varanasi,where mercury during the day stayed in early 30s,did not receive any shower.
