Protesting the detention of their Bar Association president Mian Qayoom,over 200 lawyers on Wednesday assembled before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court here and demanded his immediate release.
“The charges against Qayoom are baseless and vague. We want his immediate release,” Bar Association general secretary G N Shaheen told reporters here.
Qayoom was arrested under the Public Safety Act on July seven on various charges which included providing platform to separatists,instigating employees’ strike and asking people not to participate in the census.
“We will take legal,political and diplomatic steps for the release of our president,” Shaheen said.
After the arrest,Qayoom was shifted to Hiranagar Jail in Jammu.
