J-K produces over 1 million trout fishes annually

J-K fisheries department is producing over 1 million trout fishes annually at its farms in the state.

Jammu and Kashmir Fisheries department is producing over 1 million trout fishes annually at its farms in the state,officials said on Wednesday.

“About 7,00,000 brown trout fish are being produced annually and stocked in trout streams of the State. Besides,six lakh to seven lakh of Rainbow trout fingerlings are being produced annually,” the officials said after a review meeting,chaired by Minister of State for Fisheries Aijaz Ahmad Khan.

During the current year,four lakh trout seed and three lakh Rainbow trout have been reared till date,they said.

To increase the fish production in the state,the department will set up 68 more trout ponds this year against 21 of the last year,the officials said.

“During the current year,43 new carp ponds will be constructed in the Kashmir Division against 18 of the previous year,” they said.

Stressing on boosting the private fish farming,the minister said all efforts should be made to surpass last years achievements.
