Formulate comprehensive river upgradation projects: J-K

The Jammu and Kashmir government has asked the officers of the Agriculture and Forest departments to formulate comprehensive river upgradation projects under a national scheme.

The direction to this effect was given by Agriculture Minister Ghulam Hassan Mir at a high level meeting convened to review the implementation of National Watershed Development Programme (NWDP) in the state here on Thursday.

The minister directed the officials to submit the project reports within one month to the government so that the matter can be taken up with the Centre for approval.

The state is in dire need of such projects for the upliftment of far off areas,besides the project has a huge potential to provide job avenues to the unemployed,he said.

Mir directed the officers to achieve the targets of Phoru and Thiin Dam projects under the National Watershed Development Programme.

The Minister was informed that under micro management programme of Agriculture,Rs 25.58 crore would be spent during the current fiscal in the State.
