EC conveys displeasure to Cong,LJP nominees in Kangra seat

EC expressed its displeasure to Congress and LJP candidates contesting from the Kangra Parliamentary seat in Himachal Pradesh.

The Election Commission expressed its displeasure to Congress and LJP candidates contesting from the Kangra Parliamentary seat in Himachal Pradesh for violating the Model Code of Conduct and directed poll officials to register cases against them.

In an order,the EC said that Chander Kumar and Keshab,candidates of Congress and LJP respectively,were accompanied by more than four persons at the time of filing nominations which was against the Commission’s instructions.

Though both candidates were offered time to explain,there was no reply from them,necessitating the EC to convey its displeasure to them for the lapse,it said.

The Commission also directed the Returning Officer to file a case with the appropriate authority under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code against the two candidates for violation of the lawful direction of the EC,it said. Kangra Lok Sabha seat will go to polls on Wednesday.
