The Department of Posts released two special postage stamps depicting drawings of school children on Tiger on the Children’s day today with a view to give a fillip to the ‘Save the Tiger’ campaign.
To commemorate Children’s Day celebrations,Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) DoP J-K,John Samuel released two special postage stamps at function organised here today.
The stamps are of Rs 5 and Rs 20 denominations. Both the stamps on Children’s day depict the drawings of school children on Tiger”,Samuel said.
By bringing out the stamps on tigers on Children’s Day,the Government is encouraging the school children to be involved in Save the Tiger campaign”,he said.
This is a part of the Government’s initiative to create awareness about protecting the Tigers,he said adding that DoP has been taking many innovative steps to bring high quality philately stamps.
He said that the Department of Posts brought out a unique stamp printed on Khadi cloth recently with the image of the Father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi.
This is the first time the Department brought out a stamp on cloth,he said adding that all other stamps are printed on paper and hence there has been a great demand for this stamp on Khadi.
Chief PMG announced that “My Stamp” will be available for the people of Jammu during the philately exhibition and under this project one can get “personalised stamps” with one’s own picture.
Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle was the first one to introduce ‘My Stamp’s during philatelic exhibition held in Srinagar. Now,it is turn of Jammu to get this innovative and novel project,he said.
Two months back,Jammu and Kashmir Postal circle introduced My Stamp for the first time and this novel idea has captured the imagination of the people of J&K,he said.
The special stamps will be available at Gandhi Nagar Head Post Office,Floating Post office at Dal Lake and at Srinagar GPO. In addition,philatelists can get the new stamps from the Philatelic Bureau at Gandhi Nagar HO on regular basis by becoming members.

Philately is a hobby adopted by student community for its educative value. Department of Posts,India has brought out thousands of stamps on personalities,flora and fauna,scientific achievements and on famous institutions.
During the current year Department of Posts,J-K Circle has held many Philately exhibitions to promote philately among public especially students.
In this regard Department of Posts has held State Level Philatelic Exhibition at SKICC Srinagar located on the banks of famous Dal Lake of Srinagar. Department has also held philatelic exhibitions at Leh,Baramulla and Anantnag.
