Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday told the Tibetans refugees to stop protests and wait for the outcome of the investigations into Rs 7.05 crore foreign currency seizure from Gyuto Monastery — currently temporary seat of 17th Karmapa Uygen Trinley Dorje.
A delegation of the Tibetan leaders including Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Government-in-exile Gyari Dolma and Karmapa’s Advisor Karma Topden on Thursday met Dhumal at Dharamshala to clarify their stand on Karmapa.
I have asked them to abide by law and not to create any law and order problem for the state agencies. They all agreed and also assured me,Dhumal told the Indian Express from Dharamshala.
Himachal Pradesh chief minister — who reached Dharamshala last evening, has chosen a tough posture and asked the Tibetans why there are such protests when the central and state government agencies are investigating the source of foreign currency recorded from the Karmapa’s Monastery?. The agencies are doing their job and should instead be cooperated to find truth. Even Dalai Lama has asked for an indepth probe,he said.
Tibetans have been carrying out daily candle light processions up to Gyuto Monastery as mark of protest and express solidarity with Karmapa. This, however, has irked district administration. A local panchayat two days back had asked the Deputy Commissioner to advise Tibetans to stop protests.
Dhumal asserted that state government or any leader has not raised any doubts on the Karmapa ever before last week’s developments .The investigations and raids at the monastery were triggered only after recovery of Rs one crore cash, purported to be a meant for clearing payments for a dubious land deal involving Gyuto monastery. Why such an hue and cry before truth is found ? ,he asked.
Chief Minister also claimed that government was investigation 76 Benami land deals involving Tibetans in Kangra district and elsewhere in the state .
Meanwhile Prime Minister of Tibetan government-in-exile S. Rinpoche on Thursday met Karmapa at Gyuto Monastery. He is reportedly carried some message from Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama — who is currently at Bengalore. Rinpoche was also with Dalai Lama and was sent to Dharamshala to meet Karmapa currently facing controversies on his alleged Chinese links and currency stash.
