In another blow to the Orissa police now battling the combined might of Maoists, the rebels early this morning killed two Gramrakhis(chowkidar),slitting their throats in a village of Gajapati district.
Over 40-50 Maoists, reportedly from Basdhara Divisional Committee of CPI(Maoist),stormed Katama village under Adaba police station of Gajapati district and called Gramrakhis Sadananda Chhual Singh and Dinabandhu Mantris out of their home. “They were taken to an end of the village where the rebels slit their throats. The two bled to death,” said Gajapati SP Sanjiv Arora.
The Maoists also left a letter threatening that anyone who informs the police would meet the same fate as that of Mantri and Chhuala Singh. In that note, they also asked other Gramrakhis and Special Police Officers operating in the area to resign form their jobs. The note carried the signature of Azad alias Dona Keshava Rao,the secretary of Basdhara committee.
Sources said the Maoists held the two Gramrakhis responsible for the recent surrender of some Maoists.
The brutal murder of the two Gramrakhis has come at a time when Orissa police are finding it difficult to gather human intelligence. Police officials admit that lack of human intelligence has cost them dear in the recent months and made their task of launching successful operation against the rebels an arduous task.
