(Source: Sansad TV/ANI Video Grab)Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan adjourned the Upper House of Parliament shortly after it resumed at 11 am Friday, the last day of the Winter Session. Before its adjournment, statements and reports were laid on the table of the House.
While adjourning Rajya Sabha sine die, Radhakrishnan said, “The conduct of members during the minister’s reply yesterday (during the debate on VB-G RAM G Bill a day earlier), which included protesting and tearing of papers, was unbecoming of the House, and I express the wish that they reflect on their behaviour.”
Radhakrishnan also said “the session was very productive”, and expressed hope that they will have more fruitful discussions in the coming sessions as well.
Concluding the 269th Session of the Rajya Sabha, he recalled his first address to the House at the beginning of the Session, when he had sought the co-operation of the members for the smooth functioning of the House.
“I had urged you all to use every parliamentary device, such as Questions, Special Mentions, and Zero Hour Submissions. The session witnessed an unprecedented number of Zero Hour Notices, with an average of over 84 notices received per day, nearly a 31 per cent increase as compared to the preceding two sessions.”
Rajya Sabha held a special commemorative discussion on the 150th Anniversary of our National Song ‘Vande Mataram’, and one on Election Reforms, he added.
The House passed/returned eight Bills and adopted a Statutory Resolution regarding the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, which saw overall participation of 212 Members, the chair said.
Overall, the House functioned for about 92 hours, and the productivity of this session stood at 121 per cent, he added.
