In Lok Sabha speech, PM Modi did not pay homage to those who died during Mahakumbh: Rahul Gandhi

Gandhi also said that the PM should have spoken about employment during his speech. “The second thing I wanted to say is that there is a place for Kumbh, but those youth who went to Kumbh want another thing from the Prime Minister…they want employment, and the PM should have spoken about it.”

After PM Modi completed his statement, Opposition members wanted to speak but Speaker Om Birla did not allow them to do so. Following this, Opposition members resorted to shouting slogans.

Speaking about this, Gandhi said, “They don’t allow anyone to speak. Under the democratic structure, the LoP should be given a chance to speak, but they don’t. This is new India.”

In his speech, PM Modi said, “Last year, during the Ram Mandir Prana Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, we all realised how the country is getting ready for the next 1,000 years. Exactly one year after this, the organisation of the Mahakumbh has strengthened this thought in all of us. This collective consciousness of the country shows the strength of the country.”

PM Modi also thanked the people of the country for the Mahakumbh and said, “Today, through this House, I bow down to crores of countrymen, due to whom the Mahakumbh was organised successfully… Many people have contributed to the success of Mahakumbh. I congratulate all the Karmayogis of the government and the society… I thank the devotees from all over the country, the people of UP and especially the people of Prayagraj.”

Modi, however, did not mention Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath or the state government specifically in his speech, nor did he speak about the stampede at the Mahakumbh in January in which at least 30 people were killed.
