Proposal for upgrading 40 major roads in Tamil Nadu were under consideration of the Centre, even as works to upgrade 12 state highways into National Highways have been taken up, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said Saturday.
The state has identified 40 highways and roads for upgradation and sent proposals to the Centre and in the first phase 12 highways are being upgraded with funding from central government, Palaniswami said.
Speaking at the launch of a forum, ‘Uyir,’ initiated by Coimbatoreans, to create awareness about the need to prevent accidents, he said the remaining proposals were under the consideration of the Centre.
On the Chennai-Salem green corridor project, Palaniswami said though the land acquisition for the project was completed, it was delayed due to the Court order.
