A three-member committee formed to investigate the suicide of a 15-year-old girl student last month after allegedly being scolded by a school teacher in South Tripura district submitted its report to the state government on Thursday.

The teacher reportedly scolded the girl over alleged cheating during an examination and threw away her answer script. A day later, on July 24, the girl allegedly died by suicide.

An official of the Secondary School Education Department said, “The committee submitted its report to the Secondary School Education Department director, Nripendra Chandra Sharma, and he would forward it to the government for further action.”

The three-member committee comprised Lisa Bardhan, Joint Director of Elementary Education; Kajal Kumar Bhowmik, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Directorate of Secondary Education; and Sudip Sarkar, OSD, West District Education Officer.

The probe panel was formed after students of the school demanded punishment for the accused teacher. A section of social media users in the state also demanded action against the teacher.
