‘Strongest wall of the country’: PM Modi, President Murmu laud Army personnel on 76th Army Day

Army Day is celebrated in India on January 15th every year to commemorate the day when General K. M. Cariappa took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949. The event marks the transition of the Indian Army from British control to being led by an Indian officer.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with political leaders across the nation lauded the Army personnel on the occasion of 76th Army Day on Monday.

Hailing the unwavering commitment and sacrifices of Army personnel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said their “relentless dedication in protecting our nation and upholding our sovereignty is a testament to their bravery.”

“On Army Day, we honour the extraordinary courage, unwavering commitment and sacrifices of our Army personnel. Their relentless dedication in protecting our nation and upholding our sovereignty is a testament to their bravery…” he wrote on X.

The PM also posted a message on his YouTube account and said: “Our soldiers have always proven that they are the strongest wall of the country… From earthquakes to tsunamis to international conflicts, there is no problem our bravehearts cannot tackle”.

Army Day is celebrated in India on January 15th every year to commemorate the day when General K. M. Cariappa took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949. The event marks the transition of the Indian Army from British control to being led by an Indian officer.

President Droupadi Murmu also extended her heartfelt greetings to the Army personnel on the occasion of the 76th Army Day, emphasizing that their unwavering patriotism continues to serve as a profound source of inspiration for all citizens.

“Greetings to the Army personnel, veterans and their families on Army Day! The Indian Army has a long tradition of exemplary bravery, guarding the nation’s borders with utmost dedication. Their patriotism remains a great source of inspiration for all citizens,” the president said in a post on X.

“In situations of conflict as well as peace, our valiant soldiers are ever ready to serve the nation in every way they can. Today, a grateful nation pays tribute to those who have laid down their lives for the motherland and salutes the spirit of the Indian Army! I offer my best wishes to all members of the Army,” President Murmu added.

Extending his wishes to the army personnel on the 76th Army Day, Congress PResident Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We are forever indebted to your unflinching courage, professionalism and spirit of selfless sacrifice protects our nation.”

“”In reverence and gratitude, we salute the brave soldiers, veterans, ex-servicemen and their families, on the occasion of Indian Army Day. The Indian Army plays a pivotal role in ensuring the national security of India, whilst defending our borders across some of the most perilous terrain in the world. It provides stability during internal security challenges and is often called upon to provide assistance during natural calamities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who is undertaking the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Manipur took to X and conveyed his wishes on the Army day.

“Best wishes to all the soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families of the country on Army Day. The whole of India salutes his incredible bravery, bravery and dedication,” he said.

“Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the brave soldiers and their families on ‘Indian Army Day’. The Indian Army has always protected the country and has made countless sacrifices for it. On behalf of all the countrymen, I salute and congratulate the Indian Army!” said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extending his wishes to the soldiers on Army Day.

Meanwhile, Cheif of Army Staff General Manoj Pande said, “ I urge each member of the ‘Olive Green Fraternity’ to continue with an unwavering committment to counter security threats to the nation.”

The Chief of Army Staff further asserted that the Indian Army will observe the year 2024 as the ‘Year of Technology Absorption’ — a theme that underscores the Army’s focus and efforts to leverage technology as a catalyst for transformative change.

The 76th Army Day Parade is being held in Lucknow this year. This is the second time that the program has been organised outside Delhi. Last year it was held in Bengaluru.
