During the early hours of Sunday, the police team noticed a vehicle coming from the side of the International Border and signalled it to stop.

The smugglers, however, increased the speed of the vehicle and rammed it into the barricade in a bid to escape, police said.

In the process, two policemen were injured, and one of them later succumbed to the injuries. Police have registered a case and started looking for the absconding suspects. This was the second incident of attack by criminals on police in Samba district since last month.

Earlier, in April, three policemen, including the Bari Brahmana police station SHO, were injured when they were attacked by drug peddlers in the Balole Khad area.
