Two days before the start of a debate in Lok Sabha on the no-confidence motion against his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped up his attack on the Opposition, saying it is stuck in the “politics of negativity”. Taking a swipe at the Opposition bloc INDIA, he said “people are saying Quit India” to the “ills” of the country.
In a video address Sunday at a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, the Prime Minister said, “Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s call for the Quit India movement, people today are saying Quit India to all ills. This means, corruption, Quit India; dynasty, Quit India; appeasement, Quit India.”
“Unfortunately, a section of the Opposition is still stuck in the old ways. They will not do any work and neither will they let anyone else do any work,” he said.
“The country built a new Parliament building, keeping in mind current and future needs. Parliament is the symbol of democracy, it has representation of the government as well as the Opposition. But this section of the Opposition opposed even this new Parliament building,” he said.
Modi said the Opposition criticised the development of the new Kartavya Path as well as the National War Memorial.
“Some political parties remember Sardar Patel only during elections. Till date, not a single big leader of theirs has visited the Statue of Unity,” he said, referring to it as the largest statue in the world.
“That is why rising above this politics of negativity, we are on a path of politics of positivity like a mission,” he said, adding that the government is giving development the highest priority without seeing which state has which party’s government and vote bank.
India’s prestige, on a global scale, has increased, Modi said. “World’s attitude towards India has changed. There are two main reasons behind this – firstly, Indians elected a full majority government after almost three decades; and secondly, the full majority government took major decisions and continuously worked for a permanent solution to the challenges before the country,” he said.
“India, which is heading towards the goal of being developed, is at the beginning of Amrit Kaal. There is new energy, new inspiration, new resolutions. And in this spirit, a new chapter is beginning in the history of Indian Railways,” he said.
