Egypt’s ‘Order of the Nile’ latest addition to PM Modi’s list of state honours; here are the others

The ‘Order of the Nile’ award is the 13th state honour that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received during nine-year tenure.

Here is a list of all the state honours that PM Modi has received:

The King Abdulaziz Sash

PM Modi was conferred the Arabian country’s highest civilian honour — the King Abdulaziz Sash – in 2016. The prime minister was presented the award by King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the Royal Court. The award is named after Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the modern Saudi state.

State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan

Modi was also conferred with Afghanistan’s highest civilian honour, the Amir Amanullah Khan Award, the same year. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani conferred the award to Narendra Modi after the leaders jointly inaugurated the Afghan-India Friendship Dam, that was rebuilt with India’s aid.

The Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to make an official visit to Palestine and was conferred the ‘Grand Collar of the State of Palestine’, the highest order given to foreign dignitaries – Kings, Heads of State/Government and persons of similar rank. The honour was conferred by President Mahmoud Abbas in 2018, recognising his key contribution to promote relations between India and Palestine.

Order of Zayed Award

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the ‘Order of Zayed’, the UAE’s highest civilian award,in 2019. The award was given as a mark of appreciation for his efforts to boost bilateral ties between the two nations. Modi tweeted that the award was not “for an individual but for the spirit of Indian culture and is dedicated to the skills and abilities of 1.3 billion Indians”.

Order of St. Andrew Award

Modi has also been honoured with Russia’s highest state decoration, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle. The Russian government said Modi is being given the highest state decoration for “exceptional services” in promoting special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India.

Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin

Modi was given the highest honour of the Maldives awarded to foreign dignitaries – the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin – in 2019.

King Hamad Order of the Renaissance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with “The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance” in 2019, which was announced by His Majesty the King of Bahrain.

Legion of Merit by the US Government

PM Modi was also awarded the Legion of Merit by American President Donald Trump in 2020. Modi tweeted that the awrad recognised “he efforts of the people of India and the US to improve bilateral ties”.

Order of the Druk Gyalpo

Modi was conferred the highest civilian award of Bhutan, Ngadag Pel gi Khorlo or the Order of the Druk Gyalpo , on the occasion of the country’s National Day.

Ebakl Award

PM Modi was conferred with Ebakl Award by the President Surangel S. Whipps Jr., during his visit to Papua New Guinea in 2023.

Companion of the Order of Fiji

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been conferred with the highest honour of Fiji, the Companion of the Order of Fiji by by Sitiveni Rabuka, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji this year.

Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu

Papua New Guinea Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae bestowed the Companion of the order of Logohu to PM Modi for championing the cause of unity of Pacific Island countries and spearheading the cause of Global South. Former recipients of this award include former US president Bill Clinton.
