What PM Modi said on ‘stable, predictable, constructive’ India-China ties as he meets Chinese FM

Wang Yi's visit to India took place days ahead of PM Modi's visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi after his talks earlier in the day with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday.

Following the meeting, Modi said in a post on X that since his talks with President Xi Jinping in Kazan last year, India-China relations have made “steady progress guided by respect for each other’s interests and sensitivities.”

Wang Yi’s visit to India took place days ahead of PM Modi’s visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

“I look forward to our next meeting in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. Stable, predictable, constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional as well as global peace and prosperity,” the Prime Minister added.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Wang Yi is visiting India at the invitation of NSA Ajit Doval to attend the 24th round of Special Representatives’ (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary issue. During his two-day trip, the Chinese foreign minister also held bilateral discussions with Jaishankar.
