PM Modi launches Rs 24,000-crore scheme for vulnerable tribal groups

(PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday launched a Rs 24,000-crore project for vulnerable tribal groups on the birth anniversary of tribal icon Birsa Munda from Jharkhand’s Khunti district. The PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan is meant to ensure last-mile welfare scheme delivery and protection for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
At a gathering in Khunti, Modi also launched the Visksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a nationwide programme to reach out to all villages and include those eligible for various central schemes.
The Prime Minister underlined that his government gave priority to the deprived as “someday he had eaten with them, lived with them and their families”. “Today in the land of Birsa Munda, I have come to pay off that debt,” he said.
Explaining the scheme for tribal push, he said like there are most backwards among the backwards, there are PVTGs who are backward among the Adivasi community. “They (PVTGs) did not get pucca houses, no schools for their children… but now we are reaching (out to them). Earlier, governments only added them to the data, but I am adding to their lives,” he said.
On the third ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’, PM Modi visited Birsa Munda’s family members in Ulihatu village in Khunti. He also paid floral tributes to the 25-foot-tall statue of Birsa Munda in Ranchi at the Bhagwan Birsa Munda Memorial Park-cum-Freedom Fighter Museum at the Old Central Jail where he had breathed his last on June 9, 1900.
During the gathering at Khunti, Modi said: “We take a pledge to fulfil our dream by making India aatmanirbhar and developed by 2047; eradicate the attitude of slavery, be proud of the country’s rich heritage, will strengthen the unity of the country and respect those who protect our country and discharge the duties of being a citizen of the country.”
India’s Amrit Kaal needs a new energy and the mantra for that, he said, is to strengthen the four pillars of this nation– women, farmers, youth, the middle class and the poor.
Modi also released Rs 18,000 crore as the 15th installment of PM Kisan scheme for over 8 crore farmers across the country. Jharkhand has been showered with schemes worth Rs 50,000 crore and has become the country’s first state with 100 per cent rail electrification, he said, adding that tribals had contributed significantly for the country but did not get due recognition.
He said that during the two tenures of the BJP government at the Centre, 13 crore people have come out of poverty. “Before we (BJP) came (to power at the Centre), many people did not even have basic amenities. People have lost hope that their lives will ever change and the government thought they were the ‘maa baap (the final authority)’ of the people, but we worked from ‘seva ki bhaavna’ (a feeling to serve)… People who were deprived were given importance,” he said.
