The second Vande Bharat train on the Delhi-Varanasi route was flagged off by Prime Minister Modi on Monday. Though the train flagged off by him was white and blue in colour, Northern Railway has said it will soon don a saffron-grey colour.
The inauguration of the newest Vande Bharat in the series will be held at 2:15pm on Monday in Varanasi, though the train is scheduled to depart from Varanasi at 6 am, reaching New Delhi at 2:05 pm from every Wednesday to Monday. The high-speed train will make its eight hour journey back to Varanasi from 3 pm and reach its destination at 11:05 pm on six days of the week, except Tuesday.
What are the new features?
Other than the new shade, the Vande Bharat is equipped with superior passenger amenities which include onboard Wi-Fi infotainment, GPS-based passenger information system, plush interiors, bio-vacuum toilets with touch-free conveniences, diffused LED lighting, charging points beneath every seat, individual touch-based reading lights and concealed roller blinds, informed the NR statement.
“It has better heat ventilation and air-conditioning system with UV lamp for germ-free supply of air. The intelligent air-conditioning system adjusts the cooling according to the climate conditions/occupancy,” the statement further read.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw denied any claims of political agendas behind the saffornisation of the Vande Bharat which is seeing its second in line with the first saffron train inaugurated on September 24 between Kerala’s Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram.
He said, “For human eyes, two colours are supposed to be the most visible – yellow and orange. In Europe, almost 80 per cent of trains have either orange or a combination of yellow and orange.” The Railway Minister asserted that saffron or orange was chosen through scientific thought for optimal visibility.
The existing Vande Bharat taking the Delhi-Varanasi route departs from New Delhi at 6 am and arrives at Varanasi at 2 pm. Whereas, the journey back to New Delhi starts at 3 pm and concludes at 11 pm. As such, the addition of the second train on the track with overlapping schedules ensures higher flexibility for passengers.
