Slamming the Congress for being a “coalition of family run parties” who were “concerned with the interests of their family and not the nation” Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday said the upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be fought between two camps quite similar to the Mahabharata war.

Addressing Prabhuddhjan Sammelan in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal, Shah said, at the moment, the fight is between two ideologies — “one that wants to make the country a developed nation and the other that nurtures dynasties”. He also addressed a Booth Samiti Sammelan in Khajuraho.

The Home Minister said the elections in the past were influenced by four evils, which was replaced by the politics of performance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Unfortunately, if we analyse all the elections that have been held in our country after Independence, one thing comes to the fore that all the elections have been influenced by casteism, nepotism, appeasement, and corruption. In 10 years Narendra Modi has ended all the four evils and has replaced them with politics of performance. Today, the country is moving towards true democracy,” Shah said, adding, “Today, there are two blocs standing, like the two warring camps in the Mahabharata war.”

Shah said, “One is the BJP led by Modi, a party like a patriotic band, and the other is a coalition of family run parties. Who is this India coalition? Who is this arrogant coalition? They are proud of their families, they do not believe that the son of a poor tea seller in the country can become the Prime Minister of the country.”

Asking the gathering in Bhopal to “analyse the seven families” part of the INDIA bloc, Shah said, “Sonia Gandhi wants her son to become the Prime Minister, Sharad Pawar wants his daughter to become the Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee wants her nephew to become the Chief Minister, Lalu wants his son to become the Chief Minister, Stalin also wants his son to become the Chief Minister, and Mulayam Singh’s son wants to become the Chief Minister again. In a way, they are working for the interests of their families. Those who talk about the interests of the family, who want their sons, daughters, nephews and nieces to become Chief Ministers and Prime Ministers, cannot care about the poor of India, cannot care about India,” Shah said.

He said a Congress MP says that North India and South India should be divided into two pieces, and the party remains silent. “What has happened to the party that was once led by Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, and Mahatma Gandhi? It does not even distance itself from the statement. How can you say that this country will be divided into two pieces? No one has the courage to divide this country into two pieces because today the BJP government of Narendra Modi is in power.”

Shah was referring to the comments made by Congress MP from Karnataka D K Suresh, who in February, had said that people of South India might have to demand a separate country if “the injustice of not providing the rightful share of taxes (to the southern states) continued”.

He said the Congress is a synonym for corruption and nepotism and that the party had been involved in graft in the “sky, the Earth, the ocean, and space in their 10 years of rule”.

“In 10 years, they committed scams and corruption of Rs 12 lakh crore”, while the BJP kept fulfilling every promise it had made to the people of India, he said.

“In 2019, Rahul Baba used to say — we will build the temple there but will not tell the date. On January 22, 2024, Ram Lalla was installed in a grand temple after 500 years. The Ram Mandir issue, which the Congress kept hanging for years…Modiji laid the foundation stone and fulfilled the wishes of crores of Ram devotees by performing the Pran Pratishtha,” Shah said.
