Both the houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day Thursday afternoon after Opposition party members created a stir and demanded a discussion on the Manipur issue.

Soon after the Lok Sabha met at 2 pm on the first day of the Monsoon Session, Opposition party members started sloganeering over the Manipur violence. They raised slogans like: “Pradhan Mantri sadan me aao (let the prime minister come to the House)”.

The Monsoon Session began a day after a video showing two women from the Kuki-Zomi community in Manipur being paraded naked by a mob of men began doing the rounds on social media.

“Manipur [violence] is a sensitive issue… It is a big sensitive issue. Therefore, we want to have a discussion and the home minister will reply in detail to the discussion. Therefore, I request for allowing the House to function smoothly. People are watching. There are many important bills which have to be passed.
