Parliament Monsoon Session 2025 LIVE Updates: In a press conference after Day 5 of the Monsoon Session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor will be discussed in the Houses on Monday. “Today, in the business advisory committee (BAC), we said that we are ready to discuss on Operation Sindoor…we decided that next week, on Monday, we will have a special discussion on the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and, in response to that, Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Armed Forces.”

Parliament adjourned: The protests over the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar continued in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha today, with Opposition MPs demanding that the Election Commission of India halt the exercise. The first four days of the Monsoon session were rocked by adjournment as Opposition members continued to chant slogans and carry placards inside on the floor, disrupting House proceedings. The Lok Sabha functioned for less than 12 minutes on Thursday before it was adjourned for the day at 2 pm. On Wednesday, Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned in less than a minute at 2 pm amid ruckus in the House.

MPs push for Yashwant Varma’s impeachment: 145 Lok Sabha members and 63 Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha submitted a memorandum to remove Justice Yashwant Varma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution. Lok Sabha was adjourned till 4 pm, minutes after resuming at 2 pm as the Opposition continued to shout slogans. However, proceedings resume in Rajya Sabha. Monsoon session will comprise a total of 21 sittings, spread over 32 days, and will conclude on August 21. In between, both the Houses will be adjourned on August 12, 2025, and will reassemble on Monday, August 18, to facilitate Independence Day celebrations.

Addressing a press conference after Day 5 of the Monsoon Session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said: "You must have noticed this week that prior to the commencement of the House's proceedings, the Congress and other Opposition parties had issued a written demand to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in the House. As soon as the Monsoon Session began, we, on behalf of the Government, stated it clearly that we are ready to discuss the matter."

"We decided the same in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), but the Opposition has been creating a ruckus, and against the rules, they brought posters and banners,disrupting the proceedings."

"We were only able to pass one Bill in the first week. After the first Bill was passed, we urged to dicuss the next Bills listed, but the Congress and other parties created a ruckus and disrupted the proceedings."

"I want to state that we are going to discuss the matters you have brought up; please do not disrupt the Parliament. People elect the MPs to discuss the issues in the country, in accordance with the rules."

"Drafting each answer in the House requires a lot of hands and resources, and if we cannot discuss and listen to them, it is a loss for the public."

Parliament Monsoon Session Day 5 LIVE: 'Proceedings to remove Justice Yashwant Varma will begin', says Union Minister Kiren Rijiju

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, "All political parties have agreed that the removal of Justice Verma has to be a joint call. There should be no issue with regards to in which House it has to be moved."

Once stakeholders have agreed that the motion will be moved in Lok Sabha and concurred in Rajya Sabha, as per rule, we should not remain under any doubt that proceedings to remove Justice Yashwant Varma will begin, the Union Minister told the press.

He did not provide further details on the proceedings as the matter "is a property of the House."

Parliament Monsoon Session Day 5 LIVE: Centre set to extend President's rule in Manipur for another 6 months

The Centre is set to extend President's rule in Manipur for another six months from August 13 and a notice for bringing a statutory resolution on it has been given to the Rajya Sabha, which has been admitted by the chair.

The House is yet to take up the notice, which will be listed next week after time for discussing the same is allocated by the Business Advisory Committee of the upper house.

The Rajya Sabha Secretariat said, "Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs; and Minister of Cooperation has given a notice of the following Resolution which has been admitted:- 'That this House approves the continuance in force of the Proclamation dated the 13 February, 2025 in respect of Manipur, issued under article 356 of the Constitution by the President, for a further period of six months with effect from 13 August, 2025'."

The Lok Sabha was adjourned minutes after it met in the first half of Friday morning, as opposition members walked into the well of the House and waved placards.

Parliament Monsoon Session Day 5 LIVE: Congress moves notice over Bihar SIR issue

Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury on Friday morning moved a notice under Rule 267 in Rajya Sabha, demanding suspension of house business to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being carried out by the Election Commission (EC) in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

Chowdhury expressed concerns that the ongoing voter list revision drive in Bihar poses a "risk of disenfranchising millions" and raised questions about the "fairness" of the process due to "opaque guidelines." According to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of State (Rajya Sabha), MPs can give a notice under Rule 267 to suspend all listed business and discuss various burning issues.
