(Photo: REUTERS)J S Chandramouli, a retired SBI employee from Pandurangapuram in Visakhapatnam, and his wife Naga Mani were excited about their Kashmir trip. Along with two other senior citizen couples, they arrived in Jammu on April 18 and were supposed to return on April 26 after visiting several tourist destinations in Kashmir.
Their vacation ended in tragedy as Chandramouli’s bullet-ridden body was found by his friends near the site of the terror attack at Pahalgam Tuesday.
Chandramouli’s brother-in-law B Nageswara Rao, who is Deputy SP of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at Visakhapatnam, told The Indian Express that Chandramouli celebrated his 68th birthday last week before proceeding on the vacation with two other couples. “He worked in SBI at various branches in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, and finally retired from Visakhapatnam. All six were looking forward to visiting various tourist spots in Kashmir,” Rao said.
The couple’s two daughters are married and live in the US, and are on their way to Visakhapatnam. For several hours after the terror attack on Tuesday afternoon, Chandramouli was listed as missing. His wife and the other four members who managed to escape in the melee frantically searched for him.
Chandramouli’s wife eventually called up her brother, DSP Rao, and informed him about the attack. He then appealed to officers in J&K to help find Chandramouli. His body was found later.
On Wednesday, relatives and friends gathered at his apartment in Pandurangapuram. The five members are flying back with his body today and are expected to reach Visakhapatnam by evening.
