The Food Corporation of India (FCI) seems to be struggling to find buyers for its rice sale, as only 290 metric tonnes out of 3.75 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of grain on offer was sold in an e-auction conducted under the Open Market Sale Scheme-Domestic (OMSS-D) on Wednesday.

According to a source, 290 MT of rice was sold in three states — Karnataka, Kerala (100 MT each) and Maharashtra (90 MT) — in the latest round of e-auctions under OMSS-D.

According to information on the website of M Junction Services Ltd, a platform through which FCI conducted the auction, the Corporation received a bid for 100 MT rice at Rs 3,100 per quintal from one buyer — SLR Boiled Rice — in Karnataka. In Kerala, too, a buyer, Sunrise Trading Company, bought 100 MT rice at the same rate.

In Maharashtra, two buyers — Parvati Agro Industries and New DG Food Agro — bought 40 MT and 50 MT, respectively.

In the earlier round of e-auction on July 5, FCI had received bids for 170 MT of 3.86 lakh MT rice on offer.
