A day after Nepal raised objections to the new Indian map, saying it reportedly depicted the Kalapani area as part of Indian territory, New Delhi on Thursday said the map depicts its sovereign territory accurately and it has in no manner revised its boundary with Nepal.
On Saturday, fresh maps of India were released, showing the newly-created Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh. On Wednesday, the Nepal government said that the Kalapani area, situated in the country’s far-west, lies within the Nepalese boundary. The Nepal government had cited media reports to back its allegation.
“Our map accurately depicts the sovereign territory of India. The new map has in no manner revised our boundary with Nepal,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said at a media briefing.
“The boundary delineation exercise with Nepal is ongoing under the existing mechanism. We reiterate our commitment to find a solution through dialogue in the spirit of our close and friendly bilateral relations,” he said. At the same time, both nations should guard against vested interests trying to create differences between the two, the MEA said.
