BJP’s national executive committee member Mukul Roy on Sunday brushed aside speculation of him quitting the party and said he is very much with the BJP. Addressing mediapersons on Sunday, Roy said some people are trying to spread misleading information regarding his future in the BJP.
“There are reports that I have left the BJP or intends on leaving the party. This is nothing but a smear campaign going on against me. I have talked to my senior leaders and I have made this very clear that I am very much with the party and I will remain with the party,” said Roy.
There was speculation about his future in the party after he came back to Kolkata from Delhi on Friday. He was in Delhi to attend the party’s five-day organisational meeting, but came back after one day.
Sources said he had disagreements with senior party leaders regarding the number of seats the party is likely to win in next year’s state Assembly polls. According to party sources, Roy did not agree with the tall assessment made by the senior party leaders. Roy, however, had said he had come back to the city as he had a doctor’s appointment.
“There is no room for rumours. The party is everything to me. I want to strengthen the organisation and I will work in this regard,” added Roy.
Sources said the Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called Roy for a meeting with him on Friday and he has been asked to report to Delhi for this.
