(Express Photo) In a key decision ahead of Assembly elections, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday announced to regularise all unauthorised colonies built before December 31, 2022.
Chouhan made the announcement at a programme at his official residence here. Assembly elections are due in the state by year-end.
Government officials stated that the move is expected to benefit over 20 lakh people and that necessary funds will be made available for the development of the colonies. “All arrangements related to infrastructure will be made. Along with water and electricity, other facilities will be ensured. Development fees will not be charged from poor residents. The houses built will be accepted and given permission in the same condition,” he said.
The CM announced that the “residents of legalised colonies will be able to get bank loans and the MLA and MP funds can be released for their development”.
Chouhan also added that if any illegal colony comes up in future, it will be the responsibility of the officials concerned and that “officers must keep a close watch to prevent this”.
