One militant was killed on the second day of joint operations by security forces and the J&K Police in the forests of Billawar in J&K’s Kathua district.
In a post on X, the Army said on Sunday: “One terrorist killed and warlike stores recovered, operation still in progress.”
Additional Director General of Police for Jammu Zone, Anand Jain, said three-four militants were in the forests around Khog village near Billawar. Initial inputs suggested that they were foreigners, he told reporters.
On Saturday, a police head constable was killed and two police officers, including a DySP and an ASI, were injured in the operation. The condition of the injured personnel is stable, he said.
The area where the operation to track down the militants is in progress falls in Kathua, which along with Jammu, Samba and Udhampur districts is going to the polls in the third phase of Assembly elections on October 1.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful and incident-free polling in all the constituencies going to polls in the third phase, the ADGP said.
