(File)A joint team of the Indian Army and the police foiled an infiltration bid in north Kashmir’s Baramullah on Sunday, killing a militant. On Sunday, the Army had observed some suspicious movement in the Kamalkote sector of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and launched a search operation. As the Army closed in on the militants, they opened fire which led to a gunfight.
Police sources say that one militant was killed in the gunfight. However, his identity is yet to be ascertained.
While the Line of Control (LoC) along the frontier Kupwara sector has witnessed many infiltration attempts in the past few months, the Uri frontier has been silent. Today’s infiltration bid is one of the rare attempts by the militants to cross the border in this sector.
The Uri frontier is heavily guarded making it difficult for the militants to cross the border.
