4 Maoists killed in separate encounters, toll touches 50 this year so far

The number of Maoists killed this year in Chhattisgarh is more than twice the number of Maoists killed last year. In fact, it is more than the total since 2020.

In two separate encounters between security forces and Maoists on Friday and Saturday in the Bastar region, four Maoists were killed, taking the total this year till now to 50 in Chhattisgarh.

The figure is more than twice the number of Maoists killed last year. In fact, it is more than the total since 2020. In 2023, 24 Maoists were killed by the security personnel, while in 2022, 30 were killed. The figure stood at 47 in 2021, 36 in 2020 and 65 in 2019.

In the latest encounter on Saturday morning, three Maoists were killed in Bijapur district. The gun battle took place around 5.30 am in the Doligatta jungle on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border in the jurisdiction of the Usoor police station.

“One light machine gun, an AK47 and huge quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot. Search operations are underway,” said Inspector General of Police for Bastar range, Sundarraj P.

In the Friday encounter on the Dantewada-Bijapur border, one Maoist was killed and a weapon was recovered. The encounter took place in a jungle in the Kirandul police station limits. The police have recovered explosives and daily need items used by the Maoists.

Among the 50 Maoists killed so far, 33 were killed in Bijapur, six in Dantewada, five in Kanker, four in Sukma and two in Narayanapur.
