The Manipur Government on Tuesday deported 38 Myanmar nationals, who were illegally staying in India, through the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh, in Tengnoupal district. The immigrants were handed over safely to Myanmar authorities by the immigration officers of India posted at Integrated Check Post (ICP). As per official sources, the Myanmar nationals have been lodged in designated camps in Sajiwa jail, Imphal, for illegally entering the country. “The state government is continuing the identification of illegal immigrations and remains steadfast in its resolve to deport them. Let us Keep our borders and country secure,” Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote on his Facebook wall. Manipur government has detected 5,801 illegal migrants in Kamjong district to date, while 15 individuals have tragically succumbed to natural causes, 359 have voluntarily returned to Myanmar. At present 5,457 illegal Myanmar migrants are currently taking shelter in designated camps across eight villages in Kamjong district alone. It has been reported that biometrics for 5,173 illegal immigrants have been recorded so far. The Kamjong district administration, along with the Police Department, has initiated biometric data collection and intensified security measures around designated camps. Furthermore, plans are underway for the re-verification of all migrants and deportation once the situation in Myanmar stabilises.
