(Express Archives) Pune city police have arrested a painter who allegedly killed his wife by strangulation and then hung her by the neck with a nylon rope to stage it as a suicide.
Police have identified the accused as Swapnil Shivram More (30), resident of Ghorpadi Peth, Pune. His deceased wife has been identified as Anjana alias Anjali More (29).
Police said following a dispute, Swapnil allegedly killed his wife at her residence in Panchal Vasti in Dhankawadi on July 6. But then he hanged her with a nylon rope and left the place.
After some time, Anjali’s family members saw her hanging and rushed her to the Bharati Hospital. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The hospital authorities informed the police and the dead body was then taken for postmortem.
Family members too initially believed that she died by suicide. So, as per the legal procedure, a case of accidental death was lodged at the Sahakar Nagar police station and a probe was launched by the police to confirm the cause behind the death.
Meanwhile, the post mortem report revealed that Anjali was murdered by strangulation. Also, policemen Amol Pawar, Kiran Kamble, Mahesh Mandlik during the probe found that she was murdered by her husband.
Police then arrested her husband Swapnil under section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita on Friday, said police sub inspector Yuvraj Pothare, the investigation officer.
