Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha lashed out at the BJP after two of the party’s leaders were seen sharing the stage with one of the convicts in the Bilkis Bano rape case.
At an event to launch of a group water supply scheme in Gujarat, Dahod BJP MP Jasvantsinh Bhabhor and Limkheda MLA Sailesh Bhabhor were seen sharing the stage with Shailesh Bhatt, one of the 11 people convicted of gangraping Bilkis Bano.
Moitra demanded that the convicts are jailed and the “satanic government that applauds this travesty of justice voted out”. Meanwhile, Kavitha lamented that “perpetrators of heinous crimes against women are being celebrated” even as victims fight for justice.

I want to see these monsters back in jail & the key thrown away. And I want this satanic government that applauds this travesty of justice voted out. I want India to reclaim her moral compass. pic.twitter.com/noaoz1c7ZW

A new bench of the Supreme Court will on March 27 hear petitions challenging the early release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang-rape and murder case. The matter will be heard by a bench of Justices K M Joseph and B V Nagarathna.
Bilkis was gangraped and her three-year-old daughter was among 14 people killed by a mob on March 3, 2002, in the Limkheda taluka of Gujarat’s Dahod district during the riots. The 11 convicts, serving a life imprisonment term since 2008, were released on August 15 last year under Gujarat’s remission policy. Bilkis had said in her plea, “The en masse premature release of the convicts… has shaken the conscience of society”.
