State BJP president Devendra Fadnavis said Tuesday his party would expose alleged rampant corruption in relief and rehab operations taken up by the Democratic Front government in drought-hit areas of Maharashtra.

BJP will prepare a detailed report on the 15 drought-affected districts for central leaders to discuss in Parliament from April 21. It will work to highlight alleged failures of the administration in dealing with the worst drought since 1972.

Speaking to the media for the first time after becoming state BJP president,Fadnavis said,“A committee under senior MP Raosaheb Danve will be constituted to tour drought-hit districts and expose corruption in relief and rehabilitation.”

He was flanked by leader of opposition in the Assembly Eknath Khadse and leader of opposition in the Council Vinod Tadwe.

“As a responsive and responsible party,it will be our endeavor to not only highlight problems but also provide solutions. I will begin my drought tour in the first week of May,” Fadnavis said.

Fadnavis said former national president Nitin Gadkari and as well as deputy leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Gopinath Munde, whose reported fight delayed appointment of the state BJP president, had blessed him.

He asserted Munde made the government nervous as he fasted in Beed district of Marathwada last week to highlight administrative apathy. He said from chief minister Prithviraj Chavan to minister for relief and rehabilitation Patangrao Kadam, all got in touch with senior BJP leaders to persuade Munde to break his fast.

“Kadam promised to fulfil all the 28 demands raised by Munde.”

Fadnavis said BJP was ready to play the role of a constructive opposition, provided the government sought cooperation. “We are exhausting our lung power to highlight problems of the people. But they (the government) are thick-skinned and indifferent.”

It is not in my jurisdiction.”
