The Madhya Pradesh police have booked a father-son duo in Agar Malwa district for allegedly coercing a 31-year old man to convert his religion illegally.
The man, identified as Dashrat Malviya, approached Kotwali police station on Thursday saying that he used to work at Nasir Lala’s private clinic in Agar town and that Lala and his son Zubair Khan forced him to covert his religion and even got him circumcised in 2020. Lala’s family has however, refused the allegations and said Dashrat had fled with some money from Lala’s clinic and that he registered a fake case because they pressurised him to return the money.
An FIR has been registered under section 3 and 5 of Freedom to Religion Act 2020 has been registered at Kotwali police station of Agar based on Dashrat’s complaint.
Speaking to The Indian Express, town Inspector, Ranjeet Singar informed said Dashrat who is a resident of Rajasthan, had come to Agar Malwa in search of work in 2007. Here, he started working at Lala’s clinic. In the complaint, Dashrat has alleged that he was stopped by the accused duo from visiting temples.
“Dashrat has alleged that in 2020, Nasir and his son Zubair got him circumcised. After this, he escaped back to his hometown and only returned with his father and got the complaint registered,” said Singar. However, as per Singar, the case is being investigated after which further action will be taken.
Meanwhile, a member from Nasir Lala’s family requesting anonymity said, “He worked for us for many years, why would he continue for so long if he was under any kind of pressure and only escape now? It is a completely ridiculous story made up to harass us as he was being pressurised to return the money that he had stolen from the clinic,” said a family member.
