Hitting back at the JDS for its barrage of charges against him on the land denotification issue,Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa alleged on Wednesday that party supremo H D Deve Gowda’s family owned about 5,000 acres of land in benami names in and round the city. He vowed to retrieve them for the purpose of development.
“Me and my ministerial colleagues will launch a campaign from Thursday to expose the misdeeds of Gowda and his family members. They own 4,000 to 5,000 acres of land in and around Bangalore in benami names. I will attach their land and use it for development,” he told reporters here.
Yeddyurappa, facing a sharp attack from former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy for the last one week over the alleged illegal denotification of land acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA),said,”Gowda and his family are a curse on this state. I will bring before people the irregularities committed by them while they were in power.”
He released some documents in support of his charge that family members of Gowda had purchased land near the city.
Accusing JDS of attempting to topple his government,he said that party leaders were engaged in a ‘malicious campaign’ as they were unable to ‘digest’ his achievements.
They (JDS) cannot come to power on their own. They are trying to gain power through the back door. They are under the illusion that they would return to power. People will teach them a lesson,” Yeddyurappa said.
He also claimed that JDS offered Rs 20 to Rs 30 crore to each of the MLAs,to switch loyalty. He asked: Where did they get this money from?”
Taking on the principal Opposition Congress,he accused it of being “anti-development” and appealed to it not to forge another ‘unholy’ alliance with the JDS,for which the party suffered earlier and he too bore the burnt.
Referring to Kumaraswamy’s allegations against him over the denotification of land,Yeddyurappa said it was Kumaraswamy as chief minister of JDS-BJP coalition who denotified 5.22 acres of land in Rachenahally and sought to know for what public interest he did that.
He alleged at least three days before he lost power after BJP withdrew support to the government on October 7,2007,Kumaraswamy ordered the denotification of 45.38 acres of land.
The denotification of land has gone on for 30 years and Kumaraswamy is now trying to project as if it all started during BJP rule,Yeddyurappa said.
“Gowda’s family members are now presenting themselves as the heirs of Satya Harishachandra after indulging in irregularities,” he lashed out.
Before the special legislature session to be convened for debating the alleged land scams, the government would bring out a booklet on misdeeds committed by previous governments and distribute it to all political parties,he said.
