Trinamool Congress members on Thursday alleged a conspiracy to eliminate their leader Mamata Banerjee and demanded a probe into an accident involving a truck and a car in the convoy of the Railway Minister when she was travelling to Kolkata two days ago.
“There have been attempts earlier to kill her. She can be eliminated from politics,” party leader Sudip Bandopadhyay said during Zero Hour.
He asked how a lorry could enter the convoy of Banerjee, who has Z-plus security, and hit a car carrying police officials. “Her car was also hit,” he said.
Maintaining that Banerjee was injured in the incident,he demanded an investigation to ascertain how the security of the convoy was breached.
“She is taking rest. She has not been hospitalised despite the doctors advising her to do so. You know she does not like to go to hospitals,” Bandopadhyay said.
CPI(M) leader Basudeb Acharia stood up and said the driver of the truck was arrested and a CID enquiry ordered by the state government was already going on.
“Why are they misleading the House? Why are they being allowed to mislead the House? They are raising the issue unnecessarily,” Acharia said.
But Trinamool Congress members continued to shout him down, leading to protests from their Left counterparts.
Trying to cool down tempers,RJD chief Lalu Prasad said,”The House sends its good wishes to Banerjee and wishes that she should return to the House soon. As soon as she returns here, peace will return to the House.”
On Tuesday,Banerjee had complained of chest pain when her car braked suddenly after one of her convoy vehicles was hit by a lorry. The incident had occurred near Kolaghat when she was returning to Kolkata after addressing a rally at Lalgarh.
