Passenger panel wants ‘better food’ on Indian Railways

A railway committee has felt the need to improve the quality of food served in trains and on platforms.

Six weeks after its constitution,a railway committee has felt the need to improve the quality of food served in trains and on platforms.

“There is a need for improvement of food quality served in trains and on platforms,” said Derek O’Brian,Chairman of the Railway Passengers Committee said in New Delhi on Tuesday.

“We are going to submit our first report to the Railway Board next month giving details of our experience at different stations and trains as also our recommendations,” he said.

The committee is currently inspecting various trains,platforms and pantry cars,and interacting with passengers to have a first hand experience of the state of the affairs in stations.

“Till now we have visited various stations in many states including Madhya Pradesh,Orissa,Tamil Nadu,Karnataka,West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh,” he said.

The committee is also looking into cleanliness in trains and stations.

Admitting that a lot needs to be done,he said “the Minister (Mamata Banerjee) has charted out a clear roadmap in her budget speech and our focus is to keep the consumer in mind in all what we do. A lot is to be done.”
